Employees who contact the IT help desk several times a day about a bad internet connection are now a thing of the past. Thanks to the NetMotion solution, implemented by NetBoss at the Quality Control Bureau (KCB). The employees can again focus on carrying out checks because the system is “just” doing its job.

Dependence on IT by the KCB

The KCB is an inspection organization that carries out checks on import and export of fresh fruit and vegetables, cut flowers and pot plants. The products are checked for quality and health according to established EU regulations.

With at least 120 employees in the field who use a mobile device to perform their work, IT plays a very important role for the KCB.

Around 200,000 inspections are carried out each year in response to inspection requests received at the four regional offices in the Netherlands. After carrying out the checks at the border, the inspector is supposed to send the approved application via a tablet connected to the internet. If this last step in the chain of systems can’t be carried out, the entire import or export will not take place and the process will come to a halt. The result: unnecessary delays with all of the consequences.

No import and export possible without a stable connection

A stable internet connection is very important to carry out the work. “At KCB, let that be exactly what caused problems,” says Jac Kardolus, IT Project Manager at KCB. “The inspection depends on various systems that are linked to each other, with a human action at the end of the chain. The approval is given by one of our employees and is sent via an application that makes contact with the servers. This requires an internet connection, “explains Kardolus. It often happened that the connection was lost, so the approval was not sent. “This caused frustration and unnecessary delays in the tasks our inspectors have to perform,” said Kardolus.

“ We no longer hear the employees, which is a very positive sign for us. As a result, the implementation of NetMotion not only has a positive influence on employees in the field, now the IT department can focus again on their everyday activities as the complaints have decreased considerably. ”

Due to the loss of the connection, the contact with the servers was lost and sometimes people had to log in to the system several times a day in order to carry out the inspection correctly. The IT help desk was therefore regularly confronted with complaints telephone calls from the field staff. Kardolus: “In some cases, it even happened that people had to log in to the system several times per hour. This was the moment for change. To look for a suitable solution. In the end, a partner told us about the possibilities of NetMotion Mobile Performance (MPM) Software.

Tight implementation schedule

NetMotion is an expert in the field of mobile connectivity and is able to offer a solution for the problems that the KCB has. NetMotion provides a seamless connection between the network and the mobile devices. By using NetMotion Mobility priority is given to the most important application that is needed to perform certain activities.

Mobility acts as a virtual layer over all connection options on the mobile device. Taking on the task of steering this in the right direction, without the user noticing. The solution easily switches between WiFi and 3G / 4G internet and prevents a time-out of the applications used on the device when the connection is lost. Once the connection is restored, the session will continue where it left off, without user intervention. This way the connection is stabilized and optimized. “It soon became apparent that the services of NetMotion matched well with our wishes within the KCB and the implementation of the software started, ” Kardolus explains.

After a test on the servers of the KCB, the implementation process for all field staff could be realized within a few days. This was provided by NetBoss. They provide consultancy, implementation, and management of NetMotion solutions. After approximately fourteen days, the solution was ready to be implemented. “NetBoss had a tight schedule for the implementation process per employee but in the end even managed to do this remotely, so inspectors hardly noticed. The software was put into use immediately and did not raise any questions with employees” Kardolus says

Benefit of multiple departments

NetMotion technology makes it possible to only have to log in at the start of the working day. Since the implementation KCB employees hardly contact the IT helpdesk with connectivity problems. “We no longer hear our employees, which is a very positive sign for us,” Kardolus emphasizes. As a result, the implementation of NetMotion not only influences field staff, the IT department can now focus on their daily work as complaints have reduced.

The field staff can now carry out checks, give and send approval without any problems. This reduces the workload and simplifies the work process. As a result, clearly less stress can be felt at the workplace. Kardolus: “Finally a supplier that really delivers on what it promises.”
